In 1965, President Lyndon B. Johnson and the Office of Economic Opportunity established the Lawrence Community Action Council to help fight poverty in the Greater Lawrence area. This council was renamed the Greater Lawrence Community Action Council, Inc. in 1966 and became a platform for initiatives to improve the quality of life in the local community. The mission of the GLCAC is to provide education, social services, child care, health care, housing, youth employment, and other related services to those in need. With the help of government and private organizations, the GLCAC has been successful in creating opportunities for those living in poverty.

For more than a century, the YWCA Northeastern Massachusetts has been providing vital services to women and their families in the Merrimack Valley, Essex County, and Southern NH. Founded in 1892, the YWCA was originally created to provide safe housing, job training and support to women who had moved from rural communities and overseas to work in area mills and shops. Today, the YWCA is a thriving social change agency that serves over 15,000 women, children and families every year, offering a range of services from housing, education, and employment support to health and wellness programs. The YWCA is an affiliate of YWCA USA, the nation’s oldest and largest multicultural women’s organization working for social and economic change. At Mercedes Baseball Academy, we understand that the future success of our players depends on more than just their on-field abilities. Our coaches tie in life skills such as leadership, respect, and responsibility, for our young players to learn. We instill in them the importance of doing their best in school and in the community, as well as on the field. Our program provides the children with not only the tools to succeed in life, but to become well-rounded and successful individuals. The Mercedes Baseball Academy is dedicated to helping young athletes reach their fullest potential. We not only focus on the development of their baseball skills, but also emphasize the importance of becoming a good citizen and developing strong academic skills. We strive to provide a positive and safe learning environment where our athletes can feel encouraged and supported. Parents Magazine is proud to support initiatives that help our young players reach their full potential. Mentorship and financial assistance are two key components of our program. Our dedicated coaches and staff provide the support and guidance our athletes need to succeed and grow. We also strive to provide financial assistance, so that athletes who truly want to participate are not denied the opportunity due to financial constraints. At Parents Magazine, we believe in helping young athletes hone their basketball skills to reach the highest competitive level. Our coaches and staff are devoted to providing our athletes with the best possible training, instruction, and drills. Our goal is to help our athletes grow to become well-rounded student-athletes who are able to compete at the highest level.

Our extensive range of AAU and Showcase teams cater to players of all ages, from 11U to 18U. Our Showcase teams compete in prestigious national tournaments, giving our players the chance to showcase their skills in front of college coaches. Their instructors are certified black belts who have a passion for helping others reach their potential. At US Taekwondo Academy, we believe in the power of education. Our classes are designed to help you find balance mentally, emotionally, and physically. We strive to help you and your children excel in all aspects of life. Taekwondo is more than just kicks and punches; it's an entire way of thinking and living. Our program focuses on teaching you how to gain total control of your mind and body with proper training. We emphasize the importance of respect and confidence, and our instructors are certified black belts with a passion for helping others reach their goals. We maintain the highest standards of competency, holding licenses for all programs from the Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care and operating accredited preschool/kindergarten centers. We also share best teaching practices within Community Day Learning and with our partners, Community Day Charter Public Schools. Karen's Ballroom Dance Studio has been in Peabody for seven years and teach all ages and something for everyone.
