During the Lyndon B. Johnson administration, the Office of Economic Opportunity (OEO) created the Greater Lawrence Community Action Council, Inc. in Jan 1966. With a mission to support and improve the quality of life in Greater Lawrence, this organization focuses on initiatives such as education, social services, childcare, health, housing, youth employment, and other related fields. The GLCAC, Inc. works with government bodies, as well as private organizations, to create opportunities for people living in poverty. Since 1966, the GLCAC, Inc. has been working hard to help those in need. With the help of local, state, and federal governments and private agencies, the GLCAC, Inc. is striving to reduce the number of people living in poverty. Through their initiatives in education, social services, childcare, health, housing, youth employment, and other related fields, the GLCAC, Inc. is offering hope and opportunity to those who need it most.
