About Greater Lawrence Community Action Council in Lawrence, MA
In 1965, President Lyndon B. Johnson and the Office of Economic Opportunity established the Lawrence Community Action Council to help fight poverty in the Greater Lawrence area. This council was renamed the Greater Lawrence Community Action Council, Inc. in 1966 and became a platform for initiatives to improve the quality of life in the local community. The mission of the GLCAC is to provide education, social services, child care, health care, housing, youth employment, and other related services to those in need. With the help of government and private organizations, the GLCAC has been successful in creating opportunities for those living in poverty.

Head Start
Head Start educates young children and does so much more. We provide support services to strengthen families and foster a spirit of life-long learning. GLCAC’s Head Start is nationally accredited and recognized as a leader in early childhood education. The students learn more than ABC and 1,2,3. They build a foundation in science, technology, engineering and mathematics with an award-winning STEM curriculum.
