About Greater Lawrence Community Action Council in Lawrence, MA

The Greater Lawrence Community Action Council, Inc. was established by President Lyndon B. Johnson and the Office of Economic Opportunity (OEO) in 1965, beginning the fight against poverty in the Greater Lawrence area. This council was created with the primary purpose of improving the lives of those living in poverty through education, social services, child care, health, housing, youth employment and other related services. GLCAC, Inc. has been working diligently in partnership with local, state, and federal agencies, as well as private organizations, in order to provide aid and hope to those living in poverty. The GLCAC, Inc. has been a beacon of hope in Greater Lawrence for over fifty years, continuously striving to provide the best possible resources to those living in poverty. With the help of local, state, and federal governments and private agencies, the GLCAC, Inc. has been able to fight the war on poverty with successful results.

CHILD CARE CENTER

HEAD START

Head Start educates young children and does so much more. We provide support services to strengthen families and foster a spirit of life-long learning. GLCAC’s Head Start is nationally accredited and recognized as a leader in early childhood education. The students learn more than ABC and 1,2,3. They build a foundation in science, technology, engineering and mathematics with an award-winning STEM curriculum. GLCAC’s Head Start serves children ages 15 months – 5 years old from low-income families in Lawrence, Methuen, Andover and North Andover who meet the program requirements and are eligible for subsidized services.
