Girl Scouts of the Northwestern Great Lakes provides girls in Northern Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan with the opportunity to become empowered young leaders, building courage, confidence, and character. Appelton Memorial Park is a beloved community hub for outdoor fun and recreation. It is the largest and most diverse of Appleton Parks, boasting 143 acres of lush green, playgrounds, trails, and a fishing pond. Families can make use of the seven softball diamonds, the Miracle League Field, and the Appleton Family Ice Center. The park also has a pavilion and amphitheater that can be rented out and the Scheig Center and its surrounding gardens are open to visitors. In the winter months, when there is enough snow, areas of the park are groomed for cross-country skiing and a sled hill is available for all ages. Since its founding in 1874, the Lawrence Community Music School has been a vital part of the Fox Valley community. Established as a nonprofit division of Lawrence University, the school has been a member of the National Guild for Community Arts Education since 1983. Having served as a preparatory school in the early 1900s, the school has since adapted its name and role several times, the most recent of which was in 2020 when it became the Lawrence Community Music School. The Community Music School provides Fox Valley citizens with outstanding musical opportunities. It is also a member of the Fox Arts Network and offers support and outreach to area school music programs. Furthermore, it provides Lawrence Conservatory music education students with guided opportunities to hone their teaching skills. Currently, the Community Music School serves almost 1,500 students annually from throughout Northeast Wisconsin and Upper Michigan.
