    About Lawrence University Academy of Music in Appleton, WI

    Since its founding in 1874, the Lawrence Community Music School has been a vital part of the Fox Valley community. Established as a nonprofit division of Lawrence University, the school has been a member of the National Guild for Community Arts Education since 1983. Having served as a preparatory school in the early 1900s, the school has since adapted its name and role several times, the most recent of which was in 2020 when it became the Lawrence Community Music School. The Community Music School provides Fox Valley citizens with outstanding musical opportunities. It is also a member of the Fox Arts Network and offers support and outreach to area school music programs. Furthermore, it provides Lawrence Conservatory music education students with guided opportunities to hone their teaching skills. Currently, the Community Music School serves almost 1,500 students annually from throughout Northeast Wisconsin and Upper Michigan.

    Music for the Very Young

    (birth – 5 years; classes grouped by age) Form a learning team with your child as you explore rhythm and melody in fun classes that feature age-appropriate songs, games, and activities designed to give experience with basic musical concepts. This hands-on class utilizes traditional, folk, and percussion instruments. Classes are grouped by age and for child and parent/caregiver pairs. No siblings, please.

    Music for the Very Young- Siblings (1-5 years)

    This family class encourages siblings to have fun singing, playing instruments, and sharing musical activities. Class is for a parent/caregiver and two children of different ages (not appropriate for twins under the age of 2).

    Music & Movement (4-5 years)

    This class provides the opportunity for your child to develop coordination, personal awareness, and self-expression through imaginative movement to music. Children participate independently of their caregivers.
