Training in the martial arts develops self-confidence, condition one’s self mentally and physically. In addition to learning self-defense, karate appears to be the perfect exercise, not only for the body, but also for developing qualities of inner mental strength, positive character traits and leadership skills. Karate is an ART that cultivates positive thinking. It helps to sharpen one’s focus, concentration and attention span. Through the regular practice of kata, drills and sparring, students gain self-confidence which improves self-esteem. The structure of traditional karate training fosters self-discipline which helps with performance in school and work. Karate training provides excellent physical conditioning for youth, and adults by developing balance, posture, coordination, agility and core strength. All of the main muscle groups (arms, legs, back, chest, abdomen) are used during the practice of basics, partner drills, kata, bunkai, kumite and conditioning exercises. teens
