For more than seven decades, the Worcester Youth Orchestras (WYO) have been providing Central Massachusetts with a unique musical experience. Founded in 1947 by Harry Levenson, WYO has been dedicated to helping young musicians develop their skills, foster friendships, and learn the value of teamwork, self-discipline, and diligence. With a mission to help the greater Worcester community through accessible live musical performances and cultural enrichment, WYO continues to be a leader in the area’s musical landscape. From its founding in 1947, the Worcester Youth Orchestras (WYO) has been a beacon of hope for young musicians in Central Massachusetts. The Gigueres family has been a part of the community since 1973. Founded by Joanne Giguere, the business quickly became one of the first gymnastics training schools in the area, with a top quality dance program run by Joan Sherry. They saw an opportunity to expand the business and add a wider based program for area youth, and this led to the addition of Discovery School House. This inspiring initiative, Main IDEA, was founded by a group of passionate artists, musicians, and dancers who dreamt of creating a more open and accessible arts community in Worcester. The workshops ran in the summer of 2011, and gave kids an opportunity to explore their creative side in a safe and supportive environment. After the week of creative exploration, the kids were able to share their artwork in a showcase with family, friends, and community members.
