Founded in the early 1900s, the camp was named after William Lawrence, an early advocate of camping. For many years, the camp had a strong relationship with the Episcopal Church. Families often learned of the camp through their local parishes, and during the summer, visiting clergy offered Sunday services in the outdoor chapel. Through the years, the camp has continued to promote the importance of shared values and ideals. In the late sixties, the camp ended its association with the church, but has continued to embrace this same core philosophy. Today, the William Lawrence Camp offers a variety of activities and is a place for youth to have fun and form lasting memories. It is a testament to William Lawrence’s commitment to providing healthy opportunities for young people and his belief in the importance of commonly shared values and ideals.

Moosilauke is one of the oldest residential summer camps in the U.S. Since our founding in 1904, our mission has been simple but powerful: creating confident, happy, and resilient boys. Our continued success in achieving our goals is due to a number of factors: our incredibly positive and nurturing peer culture; our program of positive risk taking that encompasses a high level of skill development in three key areas (sports, waterfront and outdoor adventure); our emphasis on both structure and choice relative to activity classes, trips, and competition; and our extraordinary attention to the individual needs of each boy. Young Judaea is an inspiring peer-led Zionist youth movement that is dedicated to providing a variety of programs for Jewish youth in grades 2-12 throughout the United States. Founded in 1909, it is the oldest Zionist youth movement in the United States and its Hebrew name Yehuda Hatzair (יהודה הצעיר) or Hashachar (השחר), meaning “the dawn”. Young Judaea has 15 regions throughout the United States and is affiliated with the Federation of Zionist Youth (United Kingdom) and Tzofim (Israel). Programs are tailored to the different age levels, including Ofarim (Hebrew for “fawns,” grades 2-5), Tsofim (“scouts,” grades 6-7), and Bogrim (“elders,” grades 8-12). For older students, college programs focus on volunteering and interning in Israel, as well as Birthright trips. Young Judaea’s university arm was formerly called HaMagshimim, meaning “the fulfillers”. Through these programs, Young Judaea strives to encourage and inspire Jewish youth to get involved, learn, and grow in their Jewish identity.
