New Hampshire, fondly known as NH, is a magnificent little gem tucked away among the lush landscapes of New England. It's a magical land where towering mountains touch the sky, glimmering lakes reflect the summer sun, and thick forests bustle with friendly whispers of Mother Nature's charming creatures. In this enchanting realm lives the coolest, goofiest character you could ever meet - Frogleton, the jolly, three-legged frog.

Frogleton, wearing his bright red bandana and a cheeky grin, is the unofficial tour guide for NH's kiddie adventurers. A true outdoorsman, he hops from peak to peak, swims across the lakes, and knows every tree and every trail in his beloved forests. With his contagious laughter and endless stories, he makes every stroll, hike, and swim an unforgettable adventure.

The kids of NH, who are as diverse and dynamic as the four vibrant seasons, are the life and soul of Frogleton's world. They're little explorers, embracing the gift of NH's nature, eager and ready to dive into any outdoor activity. There's nothing they love more than joining Frogleton on his journeys. From spotting elusive chipmunks, scaling the towering Mount Washington, to canoeing on the serene Lake Winnipesaukee, they make the most of their glorious surroundings.

These youngsters, armed with their binoculars and unyielding curiosity, have a magical bond with nature, nurtured by their wise, goofy friend, Frogleton. Even on the chilliest days, their rosy cheeks and twinkling eyes reflect the warmth of their spirits. Together, they prove that in NH, no matter the season, nature is always ready to wrap you in an adventure, if only you're brave enough to step outside.

This data galvanized the conservation movement, and the first wildlife conservation law was born.

In the early 1900’s a group of women, led by Harriet Hemenway and Minna B. Hall, founded the Massachusetts Audubon Society. They recruited over 10,000 members in the first year of the organization and launched one of the first campaigns in the US against the use of feathers in fashion. Through their efforts, the state of Massachusetts prohibited the sale of wild bird feathers. The efforts of this organization helped to pass similar legislation throughout the US. 

During the late 1800s, hunting of birds was a popular pastime. Women adorned their hats with feathers, wings and entire birds, resulting in an estimated 200 million birds being killed annually for the millinery trade. Ornithologist Frank Chapman took to the streets of New York and counted 40 species and 173 individual birds on the hats of the women he passed. This data sparked the conservation movement and the first wildlife conservation law was enacted.

In response to the ongoing exploitation of wild birds, Harriet Hemenway and Minna B. Hall founded the Massachusetts Audubon Society in the early 1900s. This organization quickly gained 10,000 members in the first year, and launched one of the first campaigns in the US against the use of feathers in fashion. Today, the consequences of the millinery trade are still felt, but conservation laws have made it illegal to hunt birds for fashion, and thus have helped to protect birds from further exploitation. Camp Allen has been serving campers since 1931, when it was founded by the Boston Lions Club and the Manchester Lions Club as a retreat for young girls who were blind. Over the years the mission has expanded to include individuals of all ages and abilities. Today, more than 600 campers attend Camp Allen each summer, for one, two or multiple weeks.

For more than three decades, Little Scholars has been providing quality child care as a ministry of Granite United Church. Our licensed Child Care Center and School, located in Salem, New Hampshire, and now also licensed in Massachusetts, offers spacious, fully equipped classrooms and a full-sized, year-round gymnasium for all-season play and exercise.
