With over 35 years of camp experience, the Welch parents are hands-on with the day camp program. Kevin holds a B.A. in Business from Clark University and has been involved in summer camps since his childhood. His experiences from Agassiz Village, a sleep-away camp in Maine, have been a great asset to the day camp. Meanwhile, Sunshine holds a B.S. in Recreation Administration from California State University, Chico and is certified in Recreational Therapy. She has extensive experience working with children and adults with special needs, including physical, mental, and developmental disabilities. With the Adventure Day Camp, families can feel secure knowing that the Welch parents have over 35 years of camp experience. Alexander “Sandy” Lindsay was an inspiring figure in Walnut Creek, California, more than 60 years ago. His passion and curiosity for the natural world inspired him to start a garage full of local specimens and occasional wild animals, which he used to host informal classes and neighborhood hikes. His enthusiasm was contagious and soon enough, in 1955, the Diablo Junior Museum Association was formed, which included a governing board of directors. This was the beginning of the Lindsay Wildlife Experience. Today, the Lindsay Wildlife Experience is the country’s first wildlife hospital, a zoological organization, and an educational museum that specializes in native California wildlife. Its staff of veterinarians, husbandry experts, biologists, and teachers care for 5,000 wild animal patients, 70 animal ambassadors, and educate 100,000 people each year. It’s no wonder that this all started with Alexander “Sandy” Lindsay’s passion and curiosity for the natural world.
