Golf can be a great way for kids to grow and learn important lessons about life. Our programs give children the opportunity to do just that in a safe and nurturing environment. Our trained coaches are dedicated to teaching the fundamentals of the game while also encouraging children to take on life’s challenges. Lessons on the course are a crucial part of our programs, but the real value lies in the life lessons that take place off the course. Our coaches use golf as a platform to help children learn about values such as respect, honesty and perseverance. They also help children learn how to manage their emotions and gain self-confidence. In the summer of 2006, Xavier College Preparatory opened its doors for the first time to 65 freshmen. The school was designed for a maximum of 300 students and the goal was to grow one grade per year until reaching the maximum. The school has since grown to its maximum capacity, and we are proud to report that the school is highly regarded as one of the best private high schools in the Coachella Valley. In 1999, a group of local parents determined to give high schoolers in the Coachella Valley access to great education, set out to create their own school. Securing a 501(c)(3) status and 96 acres of land donated by the H.N. and Frances C. Berger Foundation in 2004, Xavier College Preparatory was ready to go. Community members and snowbirds alike lent their support to the project, with many contributing to the cause financially. The school opened its doors in the summer of 2006, and quickly grew to its maximum capacity of 300 students. It has since become a highly respected institution in the Coachella Valley, with many of its graduates going on to attend some of the most prestigious universities in the country. Xavier College Preparatory remains committed to providing a quality education to students in the Coachella Valley, and continues to be an important part of the local community. Our founder, Alex, had a personal mission to provide children with the knowledge of swimming and learning what she believes is an essential life skill. Alex’s commitment to her mission has led Desert Swim Academy to become a leader in the community for teaching swimming and water safety. Our goal is to equip children with vital swimming and water safety skills that will enable them to enjoy the water for years to come. We also strive to educate parents on how to #stopdrownings and preventable water accidents. Since its founding in 1995, CPP has grown to reach over 10,000 children and adults each year with its programs and services. Led by a dedicated Board of Directors, CPP is deeply committed to its mission of providing education and community development through live theatre. With over 20 years of experience, the Academy has been leading the way in golf instruction for juniors in the Desert and beyond. Paul Bucy, three-time DCPGA Junior Golf PGA Teacher of the Year, heads up this progressive instruction program. He and his experienced staff provide juniors with the tools to succeed in high school golf. Glen Heggstad's commitment to martial arts has had a lasting impact on the Coachella Valley. In 1987, Heggstad founded CVBJJ, a premier martial arts academy in the Coachella Valley. After two decades of commuting from Palm Springs to Los Angeles to train with the best, Heggstad earned Black Belt teaching credentials in Shotokan, Kung Fu, Judo and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. To bring an "LA quality school" to the Coachella Valley, Heggstad opened the first local grappling academy, using worn-out wrestling mats at the Palm Springs Youth Center. Heggstad's two best students, Dan McCown and Anthony Mantanona, took the reigns of the school and beyond all expectations, CVBJJ has become the largest and most successful training facility in the region. His commitment to martial arts has developed numerous successful competitors and Heggstad himself embarked on a five-year motorcycle journey around the world. Today, CVBJJ thrives as a testament to Heggstad's dedication to the martial arts community.
