Founded in 1997, Open Strings Music Studio has been a staple in the Livermore community for over two decades. Its founder, Jim Hurley, began the studio in the loft of the historic Schenone Building in downtown Livermore. It offered a variety of art classes, programs, and events in addition to its music program. In 2003, Open Strings moved to a two-bedroom cottage on Second Street, with a small group of music teachers sharing three lesson studios and a few art classes continuing on. In 2007, Fine Fretted Friends music store downtown was expanding, and Jim's efforts helped create the suite of lesson studios that Open Strings now calls home. 2009 saw Jim renovating an old structure adjacent to his 100-year-old south Livermore home. This small, but cozy, venue is now the home of Open Strings, where it continues to serve the community with music lessons, art classes, programs, and events.

For the past two decades, Shakespeare's Associates, Inc, dba Shakespeare & Performing Arts Regional Company (SPARC) has been creating a sense of community throughout the region. Through its production of high quality theatrical experiences in vineyards, public establishments, performing arts venues, schools, colleges and universities, SPARC has made a lasting impact. In 2020, that impact was celebrated in a big way when SPARC was named the "Best Live Theater" in the East Bay by the readers of the East Bay Times for a third consecutive year. This incredible achievement is due in part to the hard work of Founding Artistic Director Lisa A. Tromovitch, who has been leading the organization since 2002. Additionally, a restructuring to incorporate as a nonprofit organization in 2006 gave rise to a new board of active community leaders, an artistic council of Bay Area professional artists, and a solid foundation of donors.

It's no secret that SBA started off small. It began as a private operation working inside of a small gym, but thanks to my dedication and the tireless efforts of the parents and kids, the organization began to take notice in the community. This ultimately led to us outgrowing our original location, and we had to start anew. I'm proud to say that all of our hard work has paid off. I truly believe in the training and the little lessons that kids can learn from SBA, and it's the clients that make the organization so special. Their commitment to seeing the kids improve has led to some incredible accomplishments. SBA is still a work in progress, but if you're considering signing up for it, I can refer you to a few different clients who will be able to tell you first-hand that we're legit! Keep an eye out for even more successes to come.
