Madison Public Library has been a cornerstone of the City of Madison for over 145 years. With nine convenient locations throughout the city, and hours that are open six days a week, Madison Public Library is proud to serve the community. Last year, nearly two million visitors took advantage of the resources, programs, and services that MPL offers. From engaging events to digital media, MPL strives to promote education, literacy, and community involvement.

READ and PLAY together with children ages 5 and under! Engaging with books, songs and playful experiences all help children develop communication skills, patience, empathy, and pre-reading skills. It also helps to build a lifelong love of reading. Library programs are always free. Siblings and childcare groups are welcome.



Multi-age Storytime

Help your baby gain pre-literacy and social skills and have fun at the same time! Baby Gym offers gross motor activities, snacks, and innovative play materials to help develop bodies and minds. For babies aged 3 months to 18 months.  Drop in between 10:00am-12:00pm to make friends and play! 



Baby Gym

READ and PLAY with your favorite baby, ages birth to 17 months! Reading, singing, talking, and playing with your baby from the beginning is important because the roots of language are developing in a baby’s brain even before they can talk! Library programs are always free. Siblings and childcare groups are welcome.

Madison Public Library - Lakeview Library

One of the best things about living on the Northside is the Lakeview Library! a real gem in the community.

This summer, we went to a toddler story time and had a blast. Madeline is amazing with children. After they arrive to class for the first time, she knows everyone of the children by name and is soft-spoken, engaging, understanding, and inclusive. The songs and games she does are perfect for holding the kids' interest, and if they aren't feeling well, she will adjust her strategy to keep them as interested and entertained as possible. Madeline and their toddler program both receive ten stars.
