The JCC Thurnauer School of Music is an incredible center of excellence, providing learning opportunities to all members of our community. Since 1984, the school has touched the lives of thousands of students and families, providing them with the joy of music and the opportunity to further their artistic development. Instruction and concerts, as well as master classes, local school partnerships, and community events are all available to children, adults, and seniors alike. The JCC Thurnauer School of Music is a beacon of artistic and educational excellence, open to everyone in our community. Since its inception in 1984, it has inspired thousands of students and families with the power of music. The school offers a wide variety of activities and opportunities, from concerts and master classes to partnerships with local schools and community events, that foster a connection with music for all ages—from infants to senior citizens. The JCC Thurnauer School of Music has been a leader in artistic and educational excellence since 1984, providing a wealth of opportunities for everyone in our community. Through instruction, concerts, master classes, community events, and partnerships with local schools, the school has transformed the lives of thousands of students and families, introducing them to the joys of music. From infants to senior citizens, the school is open to all—sharing the power of music with everyone.

The JCC is home to the renowned Thurnauer School of Music, Leonard and Syril Rubin Nursery School, Neil Klatskin Summer Camps, and the JCC Dance and Drama Schools. The JCC is also proud to offer extensive, high-quality programs and services to adults of all ages, as well as to seniors and individuals with special needs.

The Tenakill Swim Club was established as a non-profit organization on February 6, 1963. The founding President was Jerome Lucker, who oversaw the first Board of Trustees, which included: James Bayley, Edward Deeb, Arther Foshay, Edward Gillen, Donald Legg, Stephen Capkovitz, Samuel Elster, Victor Frankel, Robert E. Kanski, Frank Silber, and John Tagliani. James Logan served as the first legal counsel. An official ribbon cutting was held on July 7, 1963. The Tenakill Swim Club is proud to have served as a key summer venue for more than fifty years.

Karate is something that takes a lifetime to master: it is a discipline that keeps teaching and developing an individual forever. Above all, Karate should be viewed not so much as a sport, but as a way of thinking, learning, and behaving: Karate is a way of life. Shukokai is derived from one of the original styles of Karate, Shito Ryu, with roots that date back over three hundred years to Okinawa. Using Shito Ryu as a foundation for his style, Sensei Kimura spent the last forty years of his life developing a technique that was second to none, and he perfected the ability to attack with devastating power and speed. Students of Kimura Shukokai learn how to use the biggest muscles of the body to generate this power and speed, and when the technique is mastered, they will be able to overcome their opponents with what Sensei Kimura referred to as “One hit, one kill.” Along with this tremendous ability comes the responsibility of control: students must practice with control in mind, and safety is paramount in the practice, both in and out of the dojo.

Children stretch their reading skills, creativity and problem-solving at programs tailored to their interests. The Children's Room offers programming for children ages birth to 5th grade. From creative crafting, to Storytime to STEM Workshops, no matter the interest of your children, we have a program for them.

At Tenafly Arts, families have been able to explore the world of music and dance since 1997. This distinguished school offers classes for children ages 3 and older and adults, providing instruction in both music and dance. With an emphasis on classical training, the school’s experienced instructors help students develop technique to understand the logic behind their academic training. Tenafly Arts is more than just a music and dance school; it’s a place that helps students to explore and gain insight into other art forms. The school teaches the fundamentals of music and dance, which can then be applied to drama, painting, and sculpture. Through education and exploration, Tenafly Arts helps students to gain a broader perspective on art and culture. Tenafly Arts’ mission is to provide a quality education that helps students to uncover the beauty of music and dance. With each lesson, the school’s experienced teachers equip students with the knowledge and understanding of the classics, as well as the skills to further explore and appreciate other art forms.
