Shay has always been driven to do good and help others. After an eye-opening experience in his hometown, he was determined to make a difference. By mediating a conflict between two rival gangs, he was able to stop them from resorting to violence. This was a pivotal moment that motivated Shay to help the local youth on a larger scale.
In 2018, Shay opened Beast Control in Taunton. It is the first boxing gym in the world to be located in an indoor shopping mall. He hopes that this will provide the youth of Taunton with a safe and positive outlet to channel their energy. He wants to show them that they can use their inner “Beast” for good.
The mission of Beast Control is to help young people develop self-discipline, confidence, and respect. Shay and his team aim to teach the youth the importance of goal-setting, teamwork, and perseverance. He believes that these skills will help them become successful, contributing members of their community.
Brockton native Shay Gibbons, 30 is providing an outlet for underserved youth in the local kingston-area community with the help of tried and- true fitness routines essential to the “sweet science” – boxing at Beast Control Academy. When it comes down to it, everyone has a “Beast” inside of them that’s waiting to be unleashed – yet the key to using it for benevolent purposes is to control it. However, this is easier said than done for some, especially those who may be headed down the wrong path.
