About Beacon Hill Nursery School in Boston, MA
At BHNS we believe that a child’s education should be rooted in real-life experiences and exploration. That’s why we take playtime seriously! Each classroom is equipped with a variety of materials to facilitate meaningful play, including a book area, science area, water/sand table, dramatic play area, art supplies, large and small blocks, and manipulative games. This supportive environment encourages children to explore and interact with the world around them, fostering a love of learning and discovery. We also understand the importance of reading and writing for development, which is why we have over 5,000 books, tapes, and videos in our library. We invite guest readers to classes, use library materials for story times, and stock the book area in each classroom. We hope that our library will inspire a lifelong love of reading in our students.

Programs at Beacon Hill Nursery School in Boston, MA
BeAKid
PRE-SCHOOL
Our play-based preschool curriculum allows for self-directed play and learning while also offering opportunities for peer interaction. The day includes free play and exploration, class meeting time, snack, and creative, focused investigations that spark curiosity and integrate math and literacy concepts. Our preschoolers also have weekly music and yoga classes. Two outdoor playscapes and an indoor gym for inclement weather allow for preschoolers to develop their gross-motor skills and engage in active play with peers. Our preschool program includes four classes, each with a student-teacher ratio of 6:1. Children must turn 2.9 years old by the opening of school and attend five days per week from 8:30am to 12:00pm, with the option to enroll in an Extended Day program that ends at either 3:30pm or 5:45pm.

JUNIOR KINDERGARTEN
Our Junior Kindergarten curriculum is designed to keep pace with children’s cognitive, social, and physical skills which are developing at a tremendous rate. Through daily discussions, activities, and in-depth study, teachers guide children as they further develop self-confidence, enthusiasm for learning, respect and empathy, and learning readiness skills. The day includes free play and exploration, class meeting time, snack, and creative, focused investigations that spark curiosity and integrate math, science, and literacy concepts. Our Junior Kindergartners also have weekly Spanish, music, yoga and mindfulness, and library special subject classes. Two outdoor playscapes and an indoor gym for inclement weather allow for Junior Kindergarteners to further develop their gross-motor skills and engage in active play with peers.

SUMMER PROGRAM
The Beacon Hill Nursery School Summer Program is an 8 week creative learning adventure for children ages 2 years to 6 years. For Summer 2022, we are offering four two-week sessions to children currently enrolled or who will be enrolled at BHNS for the 2022-2023 School Year. The Summer Program offers a valuable transition time for children entering BHNS for the first time in the fall. Our General Program, from 8:30am-1:00pm each day, includes activities such as arts & crafts, music, yoga, pretend & free play, science & nature, stories, and water play! Themes such as Tide Pools and Nature in the City are complemented with such virtual guest performances and presenters as The Museum of Science, New England Aquarium, and Barn Babies.
