    About The Gasse School of Music in Forest Park, IL

    The Gasse School of Music is a unique resource for those who wish to learn and appreciate music in the Chicago area. Founded in June 2001, the school has been helping to bring the joy of music to the local communities of Forest Park, Oak Park, River Forest, Elmwood Park, and Berwyn. The school's goal is to provide an enriching musical experience that is infused with a sense of fun and love of music as well as technical excellence. With a faculty of five and 140 students, the school offers private and group instruction in instrumental music, elementary music, chamber music and music reading. The Gasse School of Music promotes public performances by its students, faculty and guest artists, and encourages its students to progress through elementary, middle school, high school, and college orchestras and chamber groups.

    Early Childhood (Violin)

    We recommend starting instrumental lessons at age 4, but some children highly incentivized at home and with unusual maturity for their age may be ready at 3. The GSM uses the Suzuki Method for students this age unless the parents request the use of traditional system, which we also can use. We introduce music reading as soon as we notice the student has developed a basic facility to play the instrument and can focus his/her attention on the sheet music without damaging the basic technique (posture, tone quality, intonation, etc.).

    Grades 4 to 12 students (Guitar)

    At this age we teach traditional system from the beginning or switch to it if the student was taking Suzuki Method. Although our teachers are mainly classical guitarist they are well aware of different styles. They can teach chords progressions if the student wants to accompany his/her own singing or accompany some other instruments, read charts by chords names, all the scales, arpeggios and chords necessary for jazz improvisation, flamenco style and much more.
