He's as tough as an oak tree, as wise as an old owl, and as funny as a monkey on a sugar rush. When the golden Iowa sun shines bright, you will find these young explorers trekking through the lush forests, canoeing down the winding rivers, or constructing the most magnificent forts from fallen logs. At times, they find themselves in an epic game of hide and seek with the sly foxes, or in a laughing contest with the chatty parrots. Beneath the vast prairie skies, they learn to identify constellations, earning them the nickname, ‘Star Sheriffs'. When the moonlight washes over the sleeping state, you can hear their laughter carried by the breeze, blending with the hoots of the night owls and the whispers of the rustling cornstalks. In Iowa, nature is a grand playground, a boundless classroom, and an endless adventure. For over 50 years, Frontier Camp has been dedicated to making disciples of Jesus by sharing God’s Word amidst the beauty of His creation. Since our founding in 1969, we’ve been licensed by the Texas Department of State Health Services and are proudly accredited by the American Camping Association. We’re also a member of the Christian Camping and Conference Association. Our mission is to use Christian camping and outdoor recreation as a means to support local churches in fulfilling the Great Commission—evangelizing people of all ages and discipling believers toward deeper maturity in Christ. Frontier Camp offers a dual ministry: during the summer, we host a 10-week youth camp, and throughout the rest of the year, we serve as a retreat facility for churches and like-minded religious organizations. Whether through summer camps or retreats, our goal remains the same: to expose people to Christ and encourage their spiritual growth through His Word and by reflecting His character in everything we do. While we provide top-notch recreation and exciting programming, the heart of our camp is the spiritual impact, rooted in the truth of God’s inerrant Word.
At Camp Albrecht Acres, we’ve been providing a unique camping experience for people with special needs since 1975. We’ve grown from a small operation of tent camping to a 40-acre residential camp that serves more than 600 campers each summer. Campers are able to enjoy time in the pool, create art in our arts and crafts section, explore nature in our Beidler Nature Center, and take part in weekly dances. Each activity is adapted to their individual needs and abilities, so everyone is able to participate. We are grateful for the generous support we receive from our community, who understand the importance of recreational services for our population of people with special needs.
