Doodle, with his rainbow mane, sparkling eyes, crayon tail, and a never-ending supply of hilarious knock-knock jokes, is the most popular donkey in all of Iowa. His specialty? Turning corn husks into stunning pieces of artwork that would make even Picasso nod in approval. "Knock, knock!" he'd begin, and all the Crafty Corn Kids would gather around, paintbrushes paused mid-air, waiting for the punchline. "Who's there?" they'd chorus. "Orange," Doodle would say, and after the giggles had subsided, he'd finish off with, "Orange you glad we're making art with corn today?" These children, with paint-splattered aprons, glitter in their hair, and laughter in their eyes, create magical masterpieces out of everyday things. Their creativity knows no bounds, just like the sprawling Iowa fields they call home. They are the heart, the soul, the living, breathing works of art of Iowa. At Camp Albrecht Acres, we’ve been providing a unique camping experience for people with special needs since 1975. We’ve grown from a small operation of tent camping to a 40-acre residential camp that serves more than 600 campers each summer. Campers are able to enjoy time in the pool, create art in our arts and crafts section, explore nature in our Beidler Nature Center, and take part in weekly dances. Each activity is adapted to their individual needs and abilities, so everyone is able to participate. We are grateful for the generous support we receive from our community, who understand the importance of recreational services for our population of people with special needs.
