At our academy, we strive to provide an exceptional Art Education curriculum, tailored to the individual needs of each student. We believe that the Western Art tradition has much to offer, and our teachers provide comprehensive instruction in the classic practice of drawing. This method encourages students to see, interpret, and apply the appropriate marks to recreate an observed phenomena. We also explore other art activities, such as imaginative interpretation, philosophy of esthetics, ontology, semantics, studio praxis, and phenomenology. Our approach puts emphasis on stimulating the creative abilities of the right hemisphere of the brain, and encourages students to create their own works of art while appreciating the work of their peers.

Connecticut Academy For The Arts (CAFTA)

At the Lyman Allyn Art Museum, we are proud to be providing art education and cultural enrichment to the youth of our region. Every year, 4,000 schoolchildren come to the Museum to learn about art and culture. We work with New London and southeastern Connecticut school systems to create art programs tailored to the specific curriculum needs of students from pre-K through 12th grade. 

In addition to our regular programs, the Lyman Allyn Art Museum also offers special vacation and summer day camp programs for area children. These special programs allow kids to explore the world of art with their peers during the summer months. We strive to make sure that every child in our area has the chance to learn and appreciate art and culture.

Summer is just around the corner, and Hartford County 4-H Camp is ready to make it an unforgettable experience! Located in Marlborough, Connecticut, the camp offers eight one-week sessions of incredible fun for your children at an affordable price. Hartford County 4-H Camp is a non-profit organization that embraces the “Learning by Doing” philosophy and encourages children to develop their personal growth, build a sense of community, and cultivate a spirit of stewardship for the environment.

Mystic Seaport Museum invites families to take advantage of its wide selection of Summer Day Camps. Boys and girls ages 4 to 16 will enjoy a kid’s-eye-view of maritime history as they explore the Museum and meet new friends. Participants can learn to build and refine sailing skills in the Community Sailing classes, or choose the Joseph Conrad Summer Sailing Camp for an exciting week of sailing by day and sleeping aboard a historic ship by night. For those aged 15 and older, the schooner Brilliant offers a unique opportunity to sail the coast as part of the crew. Join Mystic Seaport Museum this summer for an unforgettable experience! 

Mystic Seaport Museum is the perfect destination for children and teens this summer. From age 4 to 16, kids can explore maritime history and discover new friends in the Summer Day Camps. The New England Science & Sailing Foundation (NESS) has a unique educational model that teaches students important skills like leadership, teamwork, confidence, and problem-solving. These skills are critical for academic success. Plus, NESS is the only program of its kind to be accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC). 

Our STEM-based curriculum uses marine science, sailing, power boating, and adventure sports as learning platforms. At Empire All Star Cheerleading & Gymnastics, we offer an array of classes and activities to help children of all ages and skill levels get the most out of their athletic pursuits. Our weekly tumbling classes provide a fun way to learn the basics of tumbling, while our private tumbling lessons provide an opportunity for more focused instruction. We offer recreational girls and boys gymnastics classes for those just starting out, as well as a competitive boys and girls gymnastics team for those looking to take their skills to the next level. For those interested in competitive cheerleading, we have a variety of all star cheerleading teams for both boys and girls.
