Today, P.S. ARTS continues to work to make sure that all California public schools have access to equitable and sustainable arts education. Led by Dr. Paul Cummins and Herb Alpert in 1991, they recognized the need to address the issue of drastic funding cuts to public schools that had left children in poverty and from communities affected by systemic racism without access to arts programs. With the goal of making sure all children have access to arts education, P.S. ARTS is still working to make a difference.
This full-service, signature P.S. ARTS program offers K-8 students 10 to 30 weeks, 1-hour per week, of art, theater, music, or dance instruction during the school day.

Community Engagement
These events feature free, hands-on family arts projects and reach nearly 10,000 students and family members annually. In addition to arts projects, families are given information about their students’ arts classes, how to volunteer with our organization, and additional resources (available in English and Spanish) to bring art-making into the home. P.S. ARTS Community Engagement events promote the value and impact of our programs and contribute to long-term arts program sustainability. These events also give families an opportunity to bond through creative activities while getting to know each other as artists in a safe, fun environment.
