About Rhythmix Cultural Works
Richmond Community Works (RCW) offers a wide range of exciting musical performances and artistic exhibitions. From Balinese and Balkan to Brazilian and Arabic music, RCW’s concerts are sure to please. Music lovers can also enjoy contemporary music, Japanese Taiko Drama, German Masked Theater and the 4 Cellos concert featuring former Kronos Quartet member Joan Jeanrenaud. RCW also presents Hanayui performing traditional Japanese dance and music, as well as Will Durst’s New Year’s Eve comedy show.
RCW's K Gallery features eight dynamic art exhibitions each year, giving artists a chance to interact with their viewing audience. Plus, visitors can attend the free weekly “Art Jam” to mingle and create art, artist lectures and workshops. The gallery also offers a wide range of classes, family workshops and summer camps for adults and youth ages 6 to 13, covering such topics as drawing, painting, music, hoop-dance, belly dance, world drumming, instrument building and circus arts. RCW is an excellent place for all ages to discover and explore the wonderful world of music and art.

Love Our Island Art Walk: Radical Beauty
Radical Beauty is the theme for the Rhythmix Love Our Island Art Walk Series – a two-year art-centric, creative placemaking project that features a diverse range of free public art events. Showcasing art installations in empty storefront windows, with free live music and dance performances presented on city streets, the project seeks to activate Alameda’s historic downtown and commercial districts.
Love Our Island Art Walks are supported by the California Arts Council and the City of Alameda, and the Downtown Alameda Business Association. The Love Our Island Art Walk Series seeks to elevate Alameda as a destination for the arts and engage locals and visitors to the island as part of that experience on select 2nd Fridays through May 2019.
ISLAND ARTS
Since 2010, Rhythmix has produced an Island Arts Concert and Workshop series, bringing the music and culture of islands around the world (Cuba, Japan, Puerto Rico, Tahiti, Indonesia, Hawaii and the U.S.) to the island of Alameda. In 2012, Rhythmix received a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts to broaden and deepen the scope of its Island Arts Program. The grant enabled Rhythmix to partner with the Alameda Boys and Girls Club (ABGC) and Girls Inc. of the Island City (Girls Inc). Artists who were part of the Island Arts Festival were subsidized to teach free workshops at the two facilities, and youth plus family members from these two organizations were given the opportunity to attend and join in the evening performances of the artists at no cost as well.
PAL ASSEMBLIES
Rhythmix Cultural Works believes that exposure to the arts can be a transformative experience and a catalyst for cultural celebration. In support of this vision, Rhythmix developed PAL as an assembly-based youth arts education program in collaboration with the Alameda Unified School District.
Through exposure to educational music and dance performances, PAL fosters awareness of world cultures and empowers underserved youth, stimulating a sense of pride in students’ cultural heritage and deepening connections to their communities. PAL assemblies serve as a catalyst for arts learning and a springboard for integrating arts education in the classroom.
