About Myrtle Beach School of Music in Myrtle Beach, SC

After graduating from Salem College in North Carolina with a bachelor's degree in music education, Barbara has been teaching music for over 40 years. She has taught general music, chorus, band and private piano, ukulele, guitar and voice classes. Additionally, she has credentials in Musikgarten, Kindermusik and continuing education in the Carl Orff method. Barbara was recently awarded the Musikgarten Exceptional Prize for the 2022–2023 academic year. This is an incredible honor and we are thrilled for her. She is dedicated to teaching her students music in a way that is appropriate for their age and developmental stage. We are honored to have Barbara as a part of our team and look forward to her continued success.

BABIES

Activities include bouncing and rocking songs, peek-a-boo games, dancing, moving, playing simple instruments and singing which develops listening skills, the sense of beat and establishing the foundation of singing and musical thought. Involvement in music at an early age is advantageous to all round child development.

TODDLERS

Activities include bouncing, singing, chanting, moving,dancing, listening and playing simple instruments.Turn taking, social awareness, and impulse control skills are fostered. Your child’s involvement in such intentional music and movement will enhance learning in all other spheres.

3-YEAR OLDS

Activities focus on seasons of the year and the child’s love of nature; they are designed to build attention and self-expression through singing, chanting, moving, focused listening, musical games, exploring musical instruments, creative movement and story telling.

4-YEAR OLDS

We build a wildlife repertoire as we visit four different settings: home, the woodland, the cattail marsh and the meadow. Activities introduce visual musical notation (simple rhythm and melody) and instruments of the orchestra. Classes include singing, creative and structured movement, playing instruments and ensemble work, ear training, guided listening and writing notation
