Once upon a time, in the sunny, splendid state of South Carolina, where the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains touched the sky and the Atlantic Ocean whispered legends, there lived a group of vibrant kids. These kids were just like you and me, full of energy, laughter, and a love for all things fun. But there was one thing that made them stick out from the rest. These kids were the brave knights of horseback riding, known far and wide as the "Peanut Butter & Jelly Trotters". Their leader was Sir Squiggles, a giggly, jiggly unicorn with a penchant for pranks. Sir Squiggles wasn't your ordinary unicorn. He had rainbow-colored whiskers, twinkling, twinkly eyes, and a belly that just wouldn't stop jiggling with laughter. He loved peanut butter sandwiches, jelly doughnuts, and of course, trotting around the glorious green meadows of South Carolina. Once the sun spread its warm hug over the land, the Trotters would saddle up on their horses. With a hoot, a holler, and a hearty cheer, they would embark on their daily adventures, exploring the winding trails along Myrtle Beach, racing through the lush greenery of Huntington Beach State Park, and learning to do neat tricks under the watchful eye of Sir Squiggles. Life in South Carolina for these Peanut Butter & Jelly Trotters was as sweet as the ripest peach. They would spend their days in joyful harmony, under the Carolina blue skies, surrounded by the gentle hum of the southern breeze and the hearty laughter of Sir Squiggles. So, if you ever find yourself in the sunny state of South Carolina, look out for the rainbow whiskers, and you might just bump into the most fun horseback riding club ever!

In 1956, Nield Gordon and Everette Pigg, former roommates and basketball teammates at Furman University, had a vision to open their own boys’ camp. They found the perfect spot in the Blue Ridge foothills of Mountain Rest, SC: 60 acres of farm land surrounded by the Sumter National Forest. They purchased the property and named it Camp Chatuga, after the nearby Chattooga River and Chattooga Ridge. The farmhouse on the property became the camp dining hall, and, to this day, is the only original building still standing. The cornfield became the lake, and the old apple orchard became the tennis and basketball courts. The camp also pays homage to the Cherokee Indians with the name, which is adapted from the Creek word “Tsa-tu-ge”, meaning “we crossed here.” Camp Chatuga has been around for over 60 years, and continues to be a place of inspiration and learning for young boys. Through the vision of two former college roommates, Camp Chatuga remain a place of growth, fun, and friendship for children today.
