Developed in the early 20th century by Morihei Ueshiba, known to his students as O-Sensei ("Great Teacher"), Aikido of North Jersey is based on centuries-old Samurai fighting techniques. O-Sensei is widely recognized as one of the greatest martial artists of all time.
Aikido is distinct from other martial arts in that it seeks to subdue the attacker with minimal physical force. Its goal is to redirect and control aggression without injuring the attacker while still being effective. This is an important takeaway for the modern world and a testament to the timelessness of this martial art. Aikido of North Jersey is committed to helping individuals incorporate Aikido techniques into their lives to foster peace, love, and self-improvement.
Our fun and exciting classes emphasize physical fitness and health, coupled with a calm, controlled attitude. A great deal of the class is working with partners, teaching the children how to trust and help each other. Our students learn to react to difficult situations by controlling and redirecting an attack to a safe conclusion without having to resort to violence.
