About Aikido Schools of New Jersey in Roselle Park, NJ
Aikido is a traditional Japanese martial art created by Morihei Ueshiba (O-Sensei) in the early 20th century, as a synthesis and breakthrough out of the traditional jitsus of empty hand, sword and stick technique. O'Sensei's Aikido preserves the spirit of traditional budo in its most creative, positive spirit. Composed of three Japanese characters: Ai, meaning harmony; Ki, spirit or energy; and Do, the path or the way. Aikido: “The Way of Unifying Energy”. The Aikido students train to apply various wrist locks, arm pins or unbalancing throws to neutralize and control and subdue attackers without needing to inflict serious injury. Such practice is done in tandem with learning the art of falling, or “ukemi”, which trains the body and mind to receive techniques in a safe manner.

Children's Program
In the children's program, we teach the art of self-defense with smiles and safety. Our commitment is to create an environment in which your child can grow physically, intellectually, and emotionally. The atmosphere is disciplined and fun. The excitement of discovery is part of everyday practice. Aikido develops: Discipline and concentration Coordination Self-defense A calm, stress reducing effect through breathing and meditation techniques Increased confidence and a positive "can do" attitude Heightened sense of spatial awareness Sense of community Leadership qualities And, it's a great workout! Junior Deshi Program
To recognize and reward ASNJ students, ages 10-17, who make Aikido a focus of their lives, we have created the Junior Deshi Program. “Deshi” is Japanese for disciple. This program is open to all junior students at ASNJ. Students must be invited by the Director of the Children’s Program as well as recommended by the student’s instructors. This program is by invitation only and students must keep up with the requirements to stay in the program. A candidate will need to perform a 6-month trial period prior to being fully accepted into the program.

Home School Program
We are proud to offer a weekly class for Home School kid’s and their Phys Ed requirements meeting Thursdays 1:00-2:00. The 6-week program offers Aikido to school age home schooled children. The courses is auto renewed until cancelled Paul Burt, the instructor, is assisted by some of our Jr. Deshi who are also home schooled. The class is open to home schooled kids ages 6 – 16. Class will focus on Aikido basics, and partnering practices to accent the relationship aspects of Aikido.
