Art Studio

I have always been passionate about art. From a young age, my parents enrolled me in art classes, and I knew that creating was the only path for me. As I grew up, I focused on ceramic lessons. I loved the clay medium and all of its possibilities. My commitment to art paid off when I was accepted into the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) for my Bachelor's degree in Fine Art (BFA). After graduating, I worked for a gallery in the Baltimore/Washington area as an art consultant. 

I then went back to MICA to receive my master's degree in art teaching (MAT). After graduating, I worked in Maryland public schools as an art teacher in grades K-5 for three years. When I got married and relocated to New Jersey, I opened up my own art studio and got daycare certified. I teach all media including painting, drawing, ceramics and paper mache. My students have been accepted into prestigious art schools such as Parsons, MICA and Rutgers Mason Gross, and I also offer adult art classes which many of my former college graduates join.

My name is Denise and I am a proud graduate of MICA with a BFA and MAT. I am passionate about sharing my love of art with others, and I am dedicated to helping students reach their artistic goals. My art studio classes are designed to teach students all media while also helping them with college portfolio preparation. I am proud that 100% of my students who have pursued the arts have been accepted into prestigious art schools.

Affordable

A wide variety of mediums will be explored. Clay, paint, drawing materials, plaster, collage, wire, mixed media, and more. Clay is excellent for fine motor development in younger students. I have my own kiln in the studio so we create a lot of vessels and sculptures. Immersion into many art forms allows for a well rounded young artist. Famous artists will also be linked to lessons, so students will be inspired and be able to recognize famous works. We will also create art outdoors, such as landscape sketches and other projects when the weather and the lesson are appropriate.

Ages 9-12   4:15pm-6m

Ages 5-9

Teen classes will also use a variety of media, however, they will concentrate more on long-term projects where students can engage in self-exploration. College portfolios are also created in this class while students are in their high school grades 9-12. Preparation for specific portfolio requirements are met for each college the student is applying to. All of my students have a 100% acceptance rate.

Scribble and Sculpt

I had a great time at Mrs. Denise's basement art studio! She taught me so much, and I use it every time I work with clay, pencils, markers, etc. I gained knowledge of numerous painting techniques and styles. I loved spending time with all of my friends in her class every day, and I always came home with a bag of candy. :)

"Taking Ms. Denise's art class is so much fun! She has been my instructor for three years. All forms of art, but especially working with clay, plaster, painting, and drawing, are what I enjoy doing the most. I enjoy finding out what new project we will be working on each week. I adore attending art class every week because Ms. Denise is such a fantastic teacher!
