Camp Allen has been serving campers since 1931, when it was founded by the Boston Lions Club and the Manchester Lions Club as a retreat for young girls who were blind. Over the years the mission has expanded to include individuals of all ages and abilities. Today, more than 600 campers attend Camp Allen each summer, for one, two or multiple weeks.
CamPower, a facilitated work training program at Camp Allen, is a program designed for young adults ages 17-25 who have developmental challenges.
Participants receive hands-on experience in a natural employment setting, working side-by-side with mentors who provide on the job training. This program is designed to create future employment opportunities for individuals with developmental challenges by providing experience and references. Some of the work includes outdoor maintenance, laundry, janitorial tasks, kitchen work, camp store management, and gardening

LIFE CAMP
Life Camp at Camp Allen is a seven day program for young adults who want to live more independently.
Unlike other sessions of the summer, Life Camp is a small group of no more than 12 campers. This allows the group to bond, work as a team, and let their voices be heard. For some participants, their goal of living independently may be just beginning. For others, they may be well on the way and need to further develop existing skills. Life Camp provides opportunities for growth, and will provide support regardless of where the camper is on their journey. Included in the tuition fee for this session, is a $100 allowance that each participant in Life Camp will receive, to pay for their food, transportation, fun, and any other expenses they incur during the week.
