Music Studio

School-year JAM is a great opportunity for school students aged 8 to 17 years old to learn old-time music in the traditional Appalachian style of singing and playing by ear. Students have the opportunity to learn the guitar, fiddle, and mandolin after school, with classes taking place for one hour a week throughout the school year in Caldwell County.

The Summer JAM program also offers students the opportunity to learn old-time music in the traditional Appalachian style, this time for 10 weeks at The HUB Station Arts Center in Hudson. Students aged 8 to 17 years old can choose from the guitar, fiddle, and mandolin and take part in a great educational experience.

School-year JAM and the Summer JAM program are great ways for young people to learn traditional Appalachian music and practice playing the guitar, fiddle, and mandolin. With classes held after school and in the Summer, students aged 8 to 17 years old can take advantage of the opportunity to learn and master old-time music in Caldwell County and Hudson.

He Caldwell Arts Council Summer JAM Camp is a 10-week summer program where students from 8 to 17 years of age can learn to play their choice of guitar, mandolin, fiddle or banjo in the old-time tradition of learning to play and sing by ear. Classes begin on June 8 and run through August  17, with July 6 off for the holiday. 

Caldwell Summer JAM Camp

The class will be taught by renowned musician and dulcimer maker Alan Darveaux. The Morganton resident has earned competition awards including the first Kentucky State Dulcimer Champion, Grand Champion Dulcimer player at Harper Van Hoy’s Ole Time Fiddlers’ and Bluegrass Festival in Union Grove, and made the top five at the National Flat Picking Championships in Winfield, Kansas. As a well-respected dulcimer maker, Darveaux has taught workshops from Bar Harbor, Maine to Orcas Island, Washington and was featured at the National Australian Folk Festival.

Senior Citizen's Dulcimer Program

Our Artists in Schools program brings theatrical performances appropriate for grades K-12 with most being held at the JE Broyhill Civic Center. Through a partnership with Caldwell County Schools, the events usually include morning and afternoon performances that connect curriculums to enhance students' learning of math, science, English and language arts, history, storytelling, behavior and more.
