MIGHTY DRAGONS (AGES 4-7)

At the Triangle’s Premier Martial Arts Dojo, we have a fun and effective program for young children. Our Mighty Dragon program serves kids aged 4–7 from all over the Triangle, from Raleigh and Cary to Chapel Hill, Durham, and Carrboro. In the Mighty Dragons classes, children have fun while gaining confidence, body awareness, and basic self-defense skills. Along the way, these students “learn how to learn” by developing group interaction skills, discipline, focus, and respect for others. Classes are designed with the short attention spans of younger students in mind. Leaping, ducking, rolling, and dodging skills are all taught as methods of avoidance, and they will learn modified versions of adult techniques. We’ve created elaborate obstacle courses and games to best teach these skills in a way that keeps the energy high and the learning exciting. The classes are safe and non-competitive. We believe in abundance of praise, encouragement, and positive reinforcement. Our young students are treated with respect, and are taught to return the same respect to others. Mighty Dragons embrace the Student Creed.

WOMEN’S SELF DEFENSE

Whether you or your daughter is going off to school, traveling abroad, or just want to feel a little more comfortable in the world, this class was designed with you in mind. Too often this sort of training is reactive rather than proactive, often sought out after some traumatic event. While it certainly can offer peace of mind after an assault, the real value of this training comes as these sort of situations can be avoided or successfully negotiated. Your instructors will guide you through an expertly designed curriculum that allows you to practice pragmatic responses to the 12 most common street assault scenarios. You will learn how to escape from grabs and restraints, fight back against striking attacks, and even learn how to use common objects as weapons of opportunity. The real benefit of this training is the confidence and awareness that comes along with this practice.

YOUTH NINJUTSU

For both adult and youth students, To-Shin Do teaches a system of martial strategies that are effective in resolving conflicts of all kinds, including physical, emotional, and social challenges. These conflict resolution skills are essential for handling the negative circumstances that are an inevitable part of day-to-day life. For young individuals who are still forming their core personality and habits, To-Shin Do offers training in confidence, self-awareness, empowerment, and the essential habits of encouraging and embracing the positive circumstances that are also inevitable in day-to-day life. The youth program of To-Shin Do is designed for students between 7 and 14 years of age–old enough to be forming opinions about life and relationships, yet still naturally receptive to the presentation of life lessons.
