A crescendo is a gradual increase in volume in music or any other situation. It is often used by composers to indicate that the music should become louder and more intense over time. In non-musical contexts, it is used to describe a situation in which the volume is gradually increasing, such as when more people enter a room and the conversation becomes louder.
