MUSIKGARTEN
Musikgarten offers instruction that is just right for each age level – from your toddler who benefits greatly from being part of a live music environment, right up through school-age children who delight in beginning private lessons. Beginning simply with singing, moving, and exploring rhythm instruments, we add levels of complexity as the children grow, expanding the singing repertoire, teaching more complex dances, and building instrumental ensembles. Children coming through the Musikgarten program inherently “know” the music they eventually play in later years in private music lessons.

THEORY FUNDAMENTALS
Each month, in addition to weekly private lessons, students in grades K-12 attend a 60-minute group class on theory fundamentals. Here we work on the basics of music: written workbook exercises on note reading and rhythms progressing to Major and minor key signatures and scale-building exercises and proper voice leading. We also cover music terminology, ear training exercises, music history and a special focus on a composer of the month, plus a monthly music game. Theory classes are a part of our basic program and are included in the semester tuition.

PERFORMANCE WORKSHOPS
Each month, in addition to weekly private lessons, all students attend a 60-minute group performing class. The classes are casual and the focus is on performance. Students are invited to perform all or a part of a song, and feedback is provided by RCM faculty members. Regular attendance at monthly performance workshops helps our music students develop the skills necessary to perform in front of an audience: confidence, poise, self-esteem, a sense of accomplishment, the ability to think on their feet, validation and support from their teachers.
