At Academy de la Danse, we are committed to helping children and adults of all ages and skill levels discover the joy of dance. Our goal is to provide an enjoyable and comprehensive dance education that will foster a love and appreciation of the art form. We believe that dancing can provide valuable life skills and a sense of joy and accomplishment.

Our classes are designed to help our students learn dance technique and skills, while also teaching important life lessons. We want to help our students develop a lifelong love for dance and understand the importance of movement.

This creative movement class encompasses a wide range of goals.  The primary goal is to foster a love of movement.  Additional goals include cognitive development, self-expression, and a positive self-image.  The creative component is quite large.  Several fun or special activities happen in each class. For example, a scarf or flag dance at the end of class can facilitate the dancer’s own physical expression.  Taking part in dancing out a narrative helps children to understand that dancing is expression.  It is a means of communicating feelings and actions.  This class provides an introduction to dance and music.  Parents are encouraged to take part in the class with their children.

TODDLER DANCE (2-4 YEARS OLD)

Classical ballet is taught safely, using the correct technique.  Correct terminology and body placement are always used.  We use the Cecchetti method of ballet.  This technique is a graded, educational method that examines teachers and students, ensuring quality ballet technique.  Pre-ballet is taught to children age 3-5 years of age, focusing on basic steps, positions and techniques.  Classical ballet is taught to students aged 6 and up.  The program progresses in difficulty as students mature in their studies. 

BALLET (3 YEARS & UP)

Pointe is offered to students when the necessary level of strength has been developed.  Students wishing to work toward their point shoes should enroll in Grade I Cecchetti.  Pointe students should be enrolled in at least 2 ballet classes per week to maintain the strength necessary to dance on pointe safely.
