About Chop Point in Woolwich, ME

Chop Point is a non-profit Christian organization that operates multiple ministries around the world. We offer a summer camp in Maine for teenagers from all over the world, a K-12 school in Maine for local students, including a small boarding program, as well as a summer camp in Nicaragua serving disadvantaged children and functioning as a social service project for school and church groups from the U.S. To make our programs as accessible as possible, we rely on outside donations from former campers, students, staff, and friends. Their support has been essential in making major improvements to the grounds, facilities, and equipment. We encourage you to come and experience Chop Point for yourself. We welcome visitors any time and are always happy to show off the amazing work that we do here. Fees are kept as affordable as possible, so anyone can join in the fun. Come and see all that we have to offer!

Athletics

Sports are an exciting piece of the Chop Point School experience. Although gym class is a part of the academic week, the physical fitness regime isn’t limited to a single period. Acres of hilly terrain give students many opportunities to walk outside daily. In addition, boys and girls from fourth through eighth grade play soccer and basketball against other area schools. High school boys’ and girls’ teams compete in Class D matches throughout the region. A running club, intramural softball , cross-country skiing, and a downhill ski trip (included in the activity fee) make staying active fun.

Fine Arts

The arts are integral at Chop Point School. Comprehensive music instruction begins in kindergarten, where students sing and learn to appreciate different styles of music. As they develop, students learn to read notes, recognize the essential components of music, play an instrument, and-if desired-join the school chorus or band. By the time they reach junior and senior high school, they should be able to read music at an intermediate level and have a good working knowledge of key signatures, time signatures, tempo, and dynamic markings. We hope to have students compete for a place in District III and All State Music Festivals. Private instruction in voice and piano is also available.

Global Learning

Many parents today believe their kids should learn Spanish in order to remain competitive in the work force and be able to minister to such a diverse nation. This is just one reason why all Chop Point students, in all grades, receive Spanish language instruction.
