About Portland Aikido in Portland, ME

At Portland Aikido, our members and teachers put in the time and effort to help maintain our dojo. Everyone helps out in their own way, from cleaning and repairs to tuition contributions. Our diverse community is made up of individuals of all ages and backgrounds, and it is our mission to provide an encouraging and safe environment for all. Our instructors, who offer their expertise without compensation, are just as eager to learn as they are to teach. We offer a unique opportunity to get in great shape, learn practical self defense skills, and have fun while doing it. There are no competitions or tournaments in Aikido, just a commitment to learning and growing as a community. Come be part of our family and join us at Portland Aikido.

Iaido

Iaido is the traditional art of drawing, cutting, and re-sheathing the Japanese sword.

Beginners

Students will learn requisite introductory Aikido basics or “kihon” including falling safely and techniques.

Mixed Level

Students of all levels train to work on more fluid technique. All students may join, but fundamentals from beginner's classes are not always taught.
