About Camp Takajo

At Camp Takajo, we maintain a traditional camp experience that is focused on teaching and reinforcing the twelve Arch Ideals. These ideals are at the center of camp life and serve as a guide for our campers and staff members. Our goal is to provide a program that promotes the development of character and personal growth in a safe and positive environment. The 12 Arch Ideals are integral to the Camp Takajo experience. These ideals form the foundation of our camp and are the cornerstone of our program. They are emulated by our staff and embraced by our campers. The ideals are reinforced throughout camp in both formal and informal settings, from educational assemblies and campfires to daily interactions. They provide the guiding principles for all of our campers and staff, setting the tone for a positive and meaningful summer experience.

SPORTS

We take great pride in our athletic programs and feel they are on a par with those offered at specialty camps. We offer quality programs in six major sports: baseball, basketball, soccer, tennis, hockey and lacrosse. A sufficient number of boys in each age group allows for homogeneous groupings. This enables us to provide appropriate instruction and game situations for campers at each level of ability. As a result, inexperienced campers are able to develop confidence and a sense of achievement. More experienced players are challenged because they have other boys against whom they can test their skills.

WATERFRONT

Camp Takajo is situated on Long Lake, located in the picturesque Sebago Lake region of southern Maine. Along nearly a mile of shoreline, we have designated areas for swimming, water skiing and wakeboarding, sailing, and canoeing. Our waterfront director is a certified Red Cross instructor who trains our staff in an intensive preseason orientation in CPR, water safety and swim instruction. Our swimming program is based on the American Red Cross Learn-to-Swim Program.

HOBBY ACTIVITIES AT CAMP TAKAJO

Participation in team sports is complemented by an extensive array of Hobby activities. Hobbies consist of nature study, painting and drawing, crafts, ceramics, music, dramatics, journalism, photography, videography, radio & electronics, and woodworking. Younger campers rotate through all the Hobbies to get a taste of each. As boys get older, they are allowed to choose the activities in which they are most interested. As part of our dramatics program, Junior and Senior campers may choose to participate in their respective Big Show which is typically a well-known Broadway musical. We also have talent shows and camp bands for interested campers.
