About Boston Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Academy Woburn in Woburn, MA
The Academy has been in operation since 1995, when 5th-degree black belt Roberto Maia founded it under the guidance of Carlos Gracie Jr., the son of Carlos Gracie, the late founder of Gracie Jiu-Jitsu. The Academy traces its roots directly back to the original Gracie Barra Academy located in Barra da Tijuca, Rio De Janeiro, Brazil. This gives students access to the most authentic Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu training available.
In 2013, Jimmy DelOrfano, 1st-degree black belt under Roberto Maia, opened Boston BJJ Woburn. This expansion of the Academy allows for more students to participate in the training and further solidifies Boston Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu as the premier training center in New England.

Adult Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu
Adult BJJ classes are for students 16+ of all skill levels.
BJJ 101 (White Belt Foundation): The Foundation Program is for adults (16+) beginning their Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu training. Students will learn the fundamentals of BJJ and basic techniques. Class structure is formed around a warm-up, a technique lesson, and partner training to practice the technique in a “live” context.
Advanced / Advanced Competition: For students blue belt and above, the Advanced Program builds on the fundamentals previously developed and begins to foster students’ personalized games. The Advanced Competition class introduces students to takedowns and the unique requirements of competing.
No-Gi Submission Wrestling: Competitions in this sport resemble Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu competitions, although competitors do not wear gis. The lack of grips increases the speed and athleticism required, but it also limits the sweeping and submission options of the competitors. This class is open to all adult students.
