About Winchester Cooperative Theater

The Winchester Cooperative Theatre for Children was established in 1979 to provide elementary school students with the opportunity to explore the world of theatre. In 1990 the program was expanded to include a middle school production. Our team of experienced professionals – which includes dramatic coaches, musicians, choreographers, stage and costume designers, and lighting directors – make sure that children have access to a professional theatrical experience. We strive to help children reach their full potential, reach a level of performance that exceeds expectations for their age, and to build their self-confidence and poise. Our mission is to ensure that children feel good about themselves and their abilities, while they discover and achieve their own personal level of excellence.

Children’s Cooperative Theatre

This spring production has become a tradition in Winchester. Highly competitive auditions for Winchester children in grades four through six are held in December and require an aptitude in drama, music and dance. Those accepted participate in a rigorous rehearsal process, culminating in a professionally staged, double cast, musical adaptation presented at the end of March.

Summer Theatre Programs

Our summer session welcomes all interested children from Winchester and the surrounding communities entering grades 3 through 9 to experience the excitement of theatre in a non-threatening and relaxed atmosphere. This non-audition program provides instruction in a broad spectrum of theatre education through participation in skits, monologues, improvisation, music and dance. Our program is staffed with enthusiastic high school and college-aged counselors, most of whom are graduates of past Coop productions!

Senior Cooperative Theatre

This program offers Winchester middle school children the unique opportunity to take part in the staging and production of a full length Broadway musical. The material is demanding and requires a high level of commitment and mutual cooperation. Auditions for the November production are held early in September. Cast member rehearse after school on Mondays, Tuesdays, and some Thursdays and Fridays.
