It seems that not a day goes by without hearing a news report about the bullying epidemic that has become so prevalent in our schools and among our nation’s youth. Statistics show that every day in the U.S. as many as 150,000 kids miss school due to fear or intimidation from bullies. It is widely believed that bullying is one of the leading causes of low self-esteem in children. Making matters worse is the fact that most victims of bullying don’t report it or talk about it. Bullies are typically insecure individuals who harass smaller, weaker children to boost their own sense of self-esteem and ego.

At Kimura BJJ, most teens typically train with our adult students in our Beginner classes. Because proficiency in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is not predicated on size and strength, we find that teenagers who train with adults develop both their technique and maturity at an accelerated pace.

We offer Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu classes for men and women of all levels and ability from novices with no previous experience to the most advanced practitioners of the art. Because BJJ is not a “striking” art, size, power, strength, or athleticism are not pre-requisites for success in learning and applying BJJ techniques. At Kimura BJJ Boston, our training programs are designed to teach students the necessary skills that can be used for both self-defense and for sport.
