At Vineyard Montessori School, we strive to provide an exceptional education that fosters self-motivation, creativity, and independent thinking. Our non-profit school provides a progressive education to children from toddlers to grade eight, following the philosophy and curriculum developed by Italian physician and educator, Maria Montessori. The school is governed by a volunteer Board of Trustees, and our mission is to ensure our students develop the foundational habits, attitudes, skills, and ideas essential to a lifetime of learning. Vineyard Montessori School is committed to providing a stimulating learning environment where children can develop to their fullest potential. Our school puts a strong emphasis on self-discovery, creativity, and problem-solving, which will help students become self-motivated and independent thinkers. We are dedicated to helping our students build the skills to continue to learn and grow throughout life. With the help of our Board of Trustees, we are working hard to ensure a bright future for all of our students.

Summer Camp

Vineyard Montessori School is a great place to have summer fun! Kids will have engaging and unique experiences exploring the outdoors, discovering new interests, meeting new friends, and creating memories….all on our beautiful island! The mission of our summer camp is to foster a lifetime love of learning through friendship, community, skill development, and exploration. What a wonderful way to spend a summer. VMS’ dedicated teachers will be heading the program. This camp must comply with regulations of the Massachusetts Department of Public Health and be licensed by the local board of health.

Preschool and Kindergarten

The VMS Preschool program provides children with many opportunities for hands-on exploration, experimentation and expressions of new ideas and skills. Our dedicated teachers help the children discover and develop their natural abilities and interests to prepare them for academic and community life. Kindergarten students have ample opportunities to enhance their learning and interests by working with more advanced materials and lessons in an interactive program. Having experienced the same teacher for more than a year, these students benefit from the teacher knowing their individual progress, strengths and areas needing improvement, both socially and academically.

Elementary

The elementary program provides a full expression of the Montessori principles of self-directed, individualized learning in a truly integrated curriculum. By building on basic skills acquired through manipulation of specially prepared materials, the elementary child moves from the concrete to the abstract reasoning. The elementary program offers individualized instruction, which means that the child may work and be helped on an individual basis. Individualized learning establishes more exclusive contact between the child, the teacher, and the work.
