Zoo New England is dedicated to inspiring people to protect and sustain the natural world for future generations. Stone Zoo is located in Stoneham, MA near the sparkling Spot Pond reservoir and was founded in 1905 by Charles Price, Superintendent of the Metropolitan District Commission’s Middlesex Fells Reservation. In 1969, the site was renamed in honor of Walter D. Stone, a former Zoo Director.
Zoo New England provides fun and engaging experiences that integrate wildlife and conservation programs, research, and education. To ensure the care and safety of the animals, in 1991, the Commonwealth Zoological Corporation (CZC) was created to maintain care, custody, and control of both Stone Zoo and Franklin Park Zoo.
Zoo New England strives to provide a safe and enjoyable environment for families to connect with wildlife and learn about conservation. Through their interactive programs, they hope to inspire people to protect and sustain the natural world for future generations.
Zoo New England educational programming includes live animal encounters, and content that meets teachers’ specific needs and curricular standards.
