About Mudflat Pottery School

Mudflat Studios in Somerville, Massachusetts provides classes, workshops, outreach programming and events that focus on the ceramic arts. Our mission is to create an environment where both students and professional artists can explore their creativity, learn new skills, and be part of a larger artistic community. Working with clay is a unique process that can be used to make both functional and decorative pieces. We believe that every student should have the chance to experience the joy of working with clay, discovering new ways to express themselves. Additionally, our studio provides a unique opportunity for our students to work closely with professional artists.

Kids Handbuilding
Kids ages 5-8 will learn the basics of handbuilding and let their creativity flow in this fun, clay class. Each week, kids will embark on a new project, paint their creations and learn about the firing process of clay!

Kids Wheelthrowing
Kids ages 8-12 will learn the basics of throwing on the potter's wheel! Kids will learn how to make their own bowls, cups and plates, along with learning how to glaze pieces. The firing process of clay will also be discussed in this fun and creative clay class!

Teen Clay
For teens interested in exploring clay on and off the wheel. The instructor will provide demonstrations of handbuilding and wheelthrowing skills, plus decoration and glazing techniques. Students can pursue individual projects of functional or sculptural clay work, with instruction and support.
