Tiny Tigers Class

Tiny Tigers meet once a week for 45 minutes. The Tiny Tigers classes focus on developing listening skills, and learning to follow directions, along with learning left from right, basic Japanese words, and of course, respect and confidence. Children learn kicks, blocks, punches, and basic katas, all while having fun. Many times we are asked why it is only a once a week class. At this age, we want the children to look forward to attending class. Children are involved in many other activities these days and in a once a week class they are not "saturated" with karate. When children are between the ages of 8 and 9 (depending on their size and ability) then they are promoted to the Junior Class where they can attend two one-hour classes a week.

Juniors Class

The Juniors class is more intense, more structured, and of course there are advanced techniques as well as the basics. Katas, kumite (sparring), Yoko Soko kumite, falls, breaking boards and advanced katas are taught. As with all the classes, they are taught by Ed DeCosta, owner and director of the North Attleboro dojo for more than 48 years. Other high ranking instructors assist. Juniors may attend two classes per week. A big plus is you and your child pick the days you want to attend. Although we like to strive for a steady schedule, such as Tuesday and Thursday, or Monday and Wednesday, we know that this is not always possible. Therefore, attendance is not limited to certain days.

Adults Class

Adults start with the white belt and work their way up to the green, brown, and then black belt. What's the hardest rank? They think it's brown belt. Why? Because at this stage of your karate, you have to perfect what you have already learned. Promotions don't come as often as they did when you first started out and it is easy to get discouraged. Practice and repetition is the key. But this is where the ultimate goal... the goal of black belt... can become a reality. But once black belt is attained, many students still stay with karate. Why? Because they realize the benefits of a healthy workout, that karate is not just an exercise it is a way of life.
