About Sandpiper Nursery School

The Sandpiper Nursery School has been designed to provide a safe, comfortable, and inspiring environment for young children. Our teachers and staff are passionate about helping kids develop the academic and social skills that will serve them for the rest of their lives. With an approach inspired by the preprimary schools of Reggio Emilia, Italy, our program is tailored to each child’s individual interests. We offer a nurturing and stimulating environment for children between two years nine months and six years of age. We are proud to provide a supportive atmosphere for children to grow in and learn from.

The Before School Group
The Sandpiper Nursery School opens its doors at 7:45 am. From 7:45 to 9:00 we offer care for children between the ages of 2 years and 9 months, and 5 years of age. The program may enroll as many as 10 children. Drop-In children may join this group with 24-hour notice.

The Pre – School Group
The Pre–School Group is located on the main floor of the building. The classroom shares two spaces linked by a communicating door. The class begins at 9:00. There is one teacher for every 8 children in the group, and the class can have a maximum of 16 children on any given day. The children must be at least 2 years and 9 months of age, and up to 3 years and 11 months. Although we keep the class together for the whole school year, there is a rolling admission in the Pre – School so that children who become of age may join the group any time before April of the present school year. After April, children need to wait for the summer session to join the school.

The Pre – Kindergarten Group
The Pre – Kindergarten Group is located on the second floor of the nursery school. This class begins at 9:00. There is a maximum of 16 children per day, who are 4 years old by August 31st of the current school year. Everyone in the Pre-K group comes to school at least three mornings per week. Children coming to The Sandpiper for an extra year in spite of the fact that they are age eligible for kindergarten are encouraged to come five days per week.
