The agency also invests in local communities by purchasing and renovating properties to provide both market-rate and low-income housing to those in need. The War on Poverty declared by President Johnson over 50 years ago has allowed us to make an impact in our local community and beyond. Our agency has grown and expanded programs to meet the changing needs of our community. We are proud to be part of the Community Action Agencies that were formed in response to this declaration. At Valley Opportunity Council, we are dedicated to providing and expanding services to those in need. We are committed to eradicating poverty in our community and beyond, through a combination of education, advocacy, partnership and collaboration. Our goal is to empower individuals and families to move out of poverty and become self-sufficient. For the past 16 years, Beyond Crayons has been a leader in the art education field for homeschoolers, toddlers, preschoolers, and children in the Belchertown and Chicopee communities. We started out as a small business in 2003, teaching art to homeschoolers. But soon, neighborhood parents wanted private and semiprivate lessons for their children, and we happily grew to meet that need. In 2016, we made the move to our larger location in Chicopee, MA. Then, in 2018, we expanded our program to include toddlers and preschoolers, and started offering workshops, group events, and birthday parties. Today, Beyond Crayons continues to be a leader in the art education field in the Belchertown and Chicopee communities. We strive to provide a safe and fun learning environment for kids of all ages, and are committed to helping children develop their skills and express their creativity.
