Explorer Club

In any week where there are more than just a handful of young, first time campers, we offer a special option: The Explorers’ Club. This special offering is limited to our youngest campers, who have never attended Camp Rotary before. We find when there are more than just a few very young campers, it is nice to be able to join them in one small group that moves together from program to program, accompanied by a counselor. Instead of choosing their individual programs, the counselor brings them from program to program during the day and they get to try out nearly every program in camp. The Club members will still be given the freedom of choosing their programs during their fourth activity period each day, but their first three will change daily. Campers are not required to participate in the Explorers’ Club if they would prefer to select their own programs as the other campers do.

Free Swim

Every day at 4:30 the entire camp has the option of a recreational swim for approximately one hour. Campers are paired up with buddies and must stay together throughout the swim. The tower, the Aqua Jump and the slide are all open during this time. On days when the temperatures are really high, the program director and the waterfront director will typically add an extra free swim period in the morning and shorten our morning program schedule.

Special Unit Activities

Occasionally a unit head may surprise the unit with an a special activity that was not announced, in advance. Examples of these activities are: a surprise pizza delivery on the other side of the pond after a boat hike; ice cream sundaes after a movie; special unit t-shirts created by the campers. All of these are surprise activities that are one of the only things that are not included in the camp tuition/fees and the campers pay a nominal fee (not to exceed $5) for these extra surprise activities. These don’t happen every session, BUT…if when they do, most of the kids really enjoy the surprise activity being sprung on them!
