At West Parish Family School, we believe that children should be allowed to grow through their natural stages of development. We have implemented the High Scope Growing Readers Program to help your child foster a love of reading and build their understanding of print and phonetic awareness. Young Toddlers & Toddlers
Our staff plans the program for our youngest children by using the latest 0-3 brain research. We use The Creative Curriculum and follow the developmentally appropriate practices as set forth by the National Association for the Education of Young Children. With one class of up to 9 young toddlers and one larger class of older toddlers (grouped 9 & 4) with six teachers shared between the three classes, we maintain a high teacher/child ratio We also have an assistant that floats between the three classes.
Your child’s day will be filled with activities that are designed with learning and fun in mind We use lots of sensory materials. We like to SEE, FEEL, SMELL, and TASTE! The toddler playground is set aside from that of the preschool and was developed specifically for this age group.
Our full day program is based on the Massachusetts Standards for Preschool Learning and the National Association for Young Children’s Developmentally Appropriate Practice.
These 3 and 4 year-olds are “all energy”, “all curious”, and ready to learn in a variety of ways. Like the toddlers, they have a language-rich environment but the emphasis is also on literature, art, music, math and science. They continue with their self-help skills. They want to do most things “all by myself”. There is plenty of time to explore the learning materials and enjoy creative play while socializing (and sharing) with friends. Outside learning takes place on our playground with both free-play and organized activities.
This group consists of our “big kids”. They are comfortable with themselves and with school. They still enjoy much of the play of the preschool and they still need it. But, they are also pre-readers and pre-writers. Again, learning takes place in a variety of ways. They enjoy language, math, science, art, and music. At this age, they can learn more about our world, culture, and geography.
