Once, he claimed to have seen a rainbow-colored whale that spat out colorful water jets, which he used to paint his ship! But what Doodle loves most is inspiring the kids. He teaches them how to see the fantastic in the ordinary, how a simple box could be a rocket to the moon, or a paper plate could be a warrior's mighty shield. Situated in southeastern Massachusetts, SMARTS – the Southeastern Massachusetts Arts and Humanities Consortium – has been providing arts and humanities programs to over 7,000 area youth since its inception in 2005. With a mission to promote creative skills in students, SMARTS offers a range of visual and performing arts programs that provide both youth and community members with the opportunity to express their creativity. Not only does SMARTS offer a wide selection of creative writing, dance, drama, film/video, music, and visual arts programs, but the organization also provides professional development for teachers in the two member districts (Attleboro and Mansfield) supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council. This enables teachers to learn new strategies to bring the arts into their classrooms, allowing them to foster creativity in their students.
