The Arlington Soap Box Derby, founded in 2008, has been promoting STEM education, good sportsmanship, and collaboration in the Arlington area by offering car building clinics, renting club cars, and hosting an annual race. The winner of the local race has the chance to attend the All-American Soap Box Derby World Championships at Derby Downs in Akron, Ohio. The event encourages families to come together and work on a project. It helps children develop self-confidence, perseverance, and craftsmanship as well as teaching proper use of tools. Through the event, kids are given the opportunity to be active in the racing circuit, while parents gain new abilities, making it a win-win for everyone involved.
